Those who greatly fear the rise of the Big Brother State in response to things like the Covid craziness include people like Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and, in this case, long-standing leftist and feminist Naomi Wolf. This illustrates the fact that it's not just something that conservatives on the right are deeply concerned about. Numerous intelligent and savvy individuals with leftist views have great fears about what has been unfolding over the past few years.
Naomi has been speaking out about the lockdowns, the mandates, the forced vaccinations etc. for some time now, and she doesn't hold back in her new book. The subtitle tells us where she is heading: “The New Authoritarians, Covid-19 and the War Against the Human.” Her main concern is the gradual erosion of our freedoms and basic human rights – not to keep us safe but to grant unprecedented powers to elitist minorities and globalist bodies. In 20 well-documented chapters she makes the case for why we all should be very afraid of where things are going, as elitists exploit crises or even invent them in order to further consolidate power and control. Wealthy and powerful elites gain in such scenarios while the masses suffer – greatly.
Although focused primarily on America, Naomi has much to say about England, Europe, and even Australia. The facts, figures and stories she shares about the scene in the US should be of help to whoever is reading this book: its theme remains the same regardless of the country in which we live. She reminds us that America has had many – and often much worse – outbreaks of infectious diseases in its past, such as the smallpox outbreak of 1775-1782 and the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918-1919. Europe too has had such outbreaks, yet even then freedoms remained intact and total lockdowns never took place. The masking, the enclosure, the isolation, the lack of fresh air and exercise, the fear, the cabin fever, the alienation engendered by computer screens – all took their toll. People grew pale, fearful, obsessive, phobic and sad, while thousands became ill and/or died.
The elites, politicians and 'health experts' calling the shots never paid the price for any of this. While people were locked in their homes (in Melbourne they were held prisoners for 23 hours a day, with only a 5 km travel allowance) the elites were still living the good life. They were not only receiving their handsome salaries courtesy of the taxpayer, but for the most part they could freely roam about. And we need to avoid the misnomer “quarantine” – what used to happen to the sick but which also occurred to some who were mostly healthy. Totalitarian and fascist societies have long used mass restrictions of movement, curfews and other ways of restricting free movement and association in order to keep their citizens in check. North Korea and China have cordoned off entire regions and put them under no-movement rules.
Of course, Naomi discusses the main culprits here – Big Tech, Big Pharma and the various globalist bodies such as the UN, the WHO and the WEF. She quotes elites like Klaus Schwab and Bill Gates, who told adoring audiences two years ago that everything must be transformed as part of a Great Reset. She also tells us which of the old systems are now fully at risk – privacy, paper and metal money, the ability to drive a car without being tracked, a free press, churches, human expression, cultural activities, democratic governance and the right to decide what happens to one’s body and property being but a few. The list goes on and on: everything must change in order to usher in this brave new world.
The elites do not want us going back to life as we knew it. Two items on social media confirm these fears. Even though Covid is in many ways now seen as a thing of the past for most people, social engineers have absolutely no intention of relinquishing their power trips. Justin Trudeau in Canada is still insisting that the unvaccinated cannot ride in trains or fly, and in South Australia the recently-elected leftist State Government has just declared a 'climate emergency'. Covid was simply a test run for even greater crises, and climate change was always a major part in this. To 'save the planet' we must be forced to relinquish most of the rights and freedoms we once took for granted. Klaus Schwab, Bill Gates and others have used climate alarmism as part of their goal to reshape society and drastically cull human population for a long time, and as Naomi reminds us these 'crises' and 'emergencies' will be never-ending. As one who is quite familiar with both history and current events (including how tyrannies arise) she has no time for things like mandatory vaccines. “The vaccine passport platform is the first step towards a social credit system, like the one in China that enslaves over a billion people. In China, the CCP can locate any dissident in five minutes because of its 360-degree surveillance of their social credit system.”
The West is not very far away from all of this. What 2020-2022 clearly demonstrated was the sudden abandonment of modern civilisation’s most cherished post-war ideals: post-Enlightenment forms of critical thinking; parents’ protective rights over the bodies and futures of their children; a world in which people could gather to worship. The elites were more than happy to do this, and far too many people happily went right along with it. They were prepared to throw away their freedom and human rights for the illusion that the ever-expanding State exists to keep them safe. We have not been kept safe, but we have seen a massive hammering of our civil rights and liberties.
Naomi's closing words deserve to be shouted from the rooftops: “In this moment when freedom itself is in the balance, when the alternative is servitude forever, the decision on whether or not to speak up makes all the difference. Tyrannies fall only when there is mass resistance. History is very clear on this! When there are just a few they are marginalised, smeared, silenced or, when things go far enough, arrested. What matters most is that enough people stand up and resist all at once.”
